Average daily throughput in the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System(TAPS) has declined from a peak above 2 million barrels per day in 1988 to 583 thousand barrels per day through 2011 -- about the same as at the start of production from Prudhoe Bay in 1977. The Alaska pipeline is operating at less than 30 percent of peak throughput.
